All good things must come to an end. However, the ending of the partnership that was The News Group Net is a sad tale wrought with greed, deceit, inappropriate actions and misunderstandings. This is the tale that ended the partnership between David Henderson and Ed Lallo.
For more than a year, David and I acted as a team, with no signed agreement. The award-winning newsroom we built for the Imperial Sugar Company, www.iscnewsroom.com, was “proof of concept” and a state-of-the-art test of the future of corporate newsrooms.
Month after month, the newsroom was filled with stories about a company coming back from the brink after a devastating explosion at its Port Wentworth, Georgia refinery. The newsroom evolved into more than either David or I could have imagined, almost taking on a life of its own. It became the “go-to” site for members of the press searching for news about the sugar industry and Imperial in particular. Company stakeholders and employees also came to depend on it for news about the company.
In May of this year, we added the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board newsroom, www.louisianaseafoodnews.com. Louisiana seafood was faced with a severe crisis with oil spilling into the gulf from the BP Deepwater Horizon catastrophe. The addition of this site was the curse that sealed our fate.
On July 31, while David was on a three-week vacation in Europe, he emailed to say that he wanted to move TheNewsGroup.Net domain from my personal GoDaddy account into our GoDaddy News Group account. Springfield Lewis and I had created The News Group name, and I had registered it. I emailed David that we would discuss his request after his return from Europe.
This was the beginning of the end of The News Group Net partnership; that same day Go Daddy security contacted me about an unauthorized transfer of the domain name.
Perhaps the saddest part of this ending is the lack of respect and class that David showed my wife, Adrienne. Even as we were having troubles, Adrienne helped David arrange a speaking engagement at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) through her old friend and colleague. David failed to have the courtesy to call, email or even write her a “thank you” note.
I can honestly say that I enjoyed the partnership I had with David until that fateful day in July. I will look back at only the good part of our relationship, and what we accomplished as a team.

Well, that just stinks. Good luck with the new venture. I know you will do well. — RA
I am sorry to hear this happened to you. Many of us have known for a long time that David Henderson is a loose cannon. I was wondering if you know what he got an Emmy for. He talks about it a lot but gives no specifics. Do you know if he was part of a team that got the Emmy or if it was just some sort of local Emmy? There are no David Hendersons in the Emmy database. Thanks for any input you can give on this. Good luck with your new company.
Sorry to hear about this development in an otherwise a great enterprise. I have always known you as a true professional and know those who have worked with you will understand. You have two great examples behind you. It can only get better.
So, let met get this straight – if I hire you as a freelancer and you get angry at me, you will rant in your blog and in emails? Boy, I’m rushing to hire someone else.
Please do fee free to hire someone else. I was not hired as a freelancer. I was a founding partner.
Take a look at this link:

This is a story written by David Henderson on his blog (and subsequently deleted) where in the caption of the photo he says “founding partner, Ed Lallo”.
Looks like you were considered much more than a “freelancer”.
Can we assume that Hmanush is actually David Henderson? I noticed that David Henderson used the name of the now deceased Heinie Manush on page 171 of his book Making News. So much for being “open and transparent”.
When we founded The News Group Net, we were getting a lot of negative comments on the Imperial Sugar Newsroom from one IP Address, but with different email names.
It turned out to be from a competitor. David was furious that he hid behind alias email names to refute our good work.
Speaking of good work, I noticed that you didn’t comment on Mr. Robinson’s question about Henderson’s emmy. What did he get an emmy for?
I can honestly say that I don’t know. Isn’t that ashame.
I just noticed that all mention of “Emmy Award” has been removed from the home page/bio of David Henderson’s blog, the News Group site, and his Twitter bio. “Emmy Award winning” has been changed to just “award winning”. I am pretty sure that the header graphic on his blog was changed too. This is very interesting as it just happened in the last couple of weeks. Maybe the truth finally caught up to him. You can still do a search for “emmy” on his blog and see old blog posts where he talked about his Emmy.
Thomas, it is very sad that a one time respected social media leader that championed open and truthful corporate citizenship, has put his reputation in jeopardy during the twilight of his career.
