Let’s face it with the economy is in a downward spiral towards the gates of hell, it is a tough time to be in business. Many out there already hear the rushing water of the River Styx and fear that Phlegyas is waiting to cross them over into the nine circles of hell. Businesses are afraid they might face the same fate as Dante being led by Virgil through the gates of Hell and marked by the haunting inscription “abandon all hope, you who enter here”.
The year was 1980 and Jimmy Carter had just become president. It was also the year that I decided to leave my job as a newspaper photographer, and freelance. Little did I know the economic turmoil that the next few years were to hold. Unemployment, interest rates at more than 15%, the Iran hostages and the general pessimism of the country.
What I didn’t realize was that it was also a good time to start a business because other that were less capitalized, less talented and less competitive were failing. The Darwin theory applied to capitalism.
After consulting with a number of my clients, and with a fresh spirit of competitiveness, I have come to the decision to align my rates to reflect the present economic conditions. I am hoping this will only be a temporary measure and that the economy will turn around quickly.
Clients are concerned about budgets, or lack of them. Photographic projects have been placed on hold or killed altogether. I am offering real solutions to these problems. In addition, clients still retain unlimited rights to the usage of photos. For complete details please contact me.
Having survived the depths of Hell, Dante and Virgil ascended out of the undergloom to the Mountain of Purgatory, where Dante started his ascent to heaven. Like Dante, we too will soon emerge from this economic hell and soon start our accent of Mt. Purgatory to reach the gates of our economic heaven.
As Virgil guided Dante through the circles of hell, let me be your photographic guide through this current economic Hades and we will all emerge from this dark underworld in a much better place.
