Giving Back to the Community
ExxonMobil brought MediSend and I together. While on a shoot for ExxonMobil’s Lamp magazine I met MediSend CEO Nick Hallack. Nick, a very energetic go-getter, had me convinced by the end of lunch that I should help out on some future projects.
MediSend International is a nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian medical aid and education to people in need in developing countries worldwide. The non-profit’s global mission includes the distribution of medical supplies and equipment in long-term medical aid programs, disaster-emergency medical relief campaigns, and educational programs in Biomedical Equipment Repair. The Dallas based non-profit has distributed more than 590 shipments of medical supplies and equipment, valued at over $72 million dollars to needy communities in 93 developing countries.

During the course of the past year and a half, I have aided in producing photos that can be used in publicity for the organization. Be it training classes of African students sent to the US to learn to repair medical equipment, or large donations of beds, gloves, or needles from medical supply companies.
MediSend is also is setting up an online pressroom where media can download photos for immediate use.
Donating back to the community should be a must for every photographer. You might just find another good reason for giving, sometimes you happen to come along some excellent photos along the way.
